Investigating olfactory receptors to examine chemical dialects between figs and their wasps in geographically separate areas of India

2016–2019

Dr. Sushma Krishnan, works in the National Core Facility, Division of Biological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, that offers state-of-the-art facilities to improve the quality of the research in India, supported by DBT-IISc Partnership program. She also works with Prof. Renee M. Borges, Center for Ecological Sciences, IISc on DBT-NER project that links the researchers from Northeast and South India in the field of Olfactory Science.

Previously she worked in Max-Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Germany to investigate fig wasp olfactory receptors. She worked on Mycobacterial stress response during her postdoc period in Molecular Biophysics Unit, IISc, Bangalore. She obtained her Ph.D degree from CBST, VIT University, Vellore.

She is the recipient of EMBO, Young Scientist, DBT and DST awards for her research work. She has guided several post graduates and PhD scholars. She owns publications in international journals, a patent and contributed chapters to the book Molecular Recognition, Taylor and Francis Publication. She regularly trains the young researchers from all over India in advanced research – based technologies.
